From my memory banks. January. 1964.
The Road Trip Diaries, Author Unknown: Night....
January, 1964. Somewhere in Colorado *I think?!?*
It is snowing. And late. We’ve just finally gotten off the road. We should have been off the road long before but Oh Dear Diary! we just had to keep going until we found someplace to stay overnight, it was way too cold to sleep in the car tonight, even if we kind of huddled together (like we have sort of done on a regular basis all...
Dear N.
Good to see your face again!
Oh, and, um, that blue light under me at the end there? It might look like a blowtorch or, um, a flashlight or something but it was actually me beaming at you. (Did you see me in the river? I was there to beam at you. What?)
Love,
(a now beaming and somewhat giddy) LV
It’s What The People Want.
– The tagline of Volkswagen’s new ad campaign, which will be centered on bigger cars, according to a recent article in the New York Times.
“Americans need more space than in Europe,” says Stefan Jacoby, Chief Executive of VW of America, “The United States will not turn into a...
Me, yesterday. Click for a clip from my home movies. Well, my home away from home (Brizio’s).
Oh my, dear Blog, it is so good to be worked on again. I feel like a queen.

Tesla Working on 300+ mile range battery pack →
Check it out. And of note: The current roadblock to the extremely long range battery is not only cost but also, simply, mass. These smaller cars are simply not able to haul around a giant battery pack. Which would put a bigger, heavier car at an advantage for the really long range battery down the road, don’tcha think? Know anyone like that?

Good Phone
LV: (takes iPhone from glovebox, dials Grid. ring ring ring)
GRiD: (sighing) Hello?
LV: Hi!
GRiD: How did I know this was going to be you LV?
LV: I dunno. How did ya?
GRiD: Because it's always you.
LV: Oh. Well. Anyway. Hi. Wassup? Isn't this so cool? That we can talk now? For real?
GRiD: LV, we're still talking on the phone. The car-to-grid technology isn't ready yet.
LV: (silence)
GRiD: LV?
LV: I get a charge out of you.
GRiD: (silence)
LV: You electrify me?
GRiD: (silence)
LV: Okay, I won't call you anymore tonight. Go back to sleep.
GRiD: I don't sleep, I'm always on, remember?
LV: Oh. Well, keep on bloggin' 'til the power goes out!
GRiD: I don't have a blog.
LV: Well, maybe you should, now that you're going to be talking to all these cars. Hey, do you think Neil's awake? Maybe I'll give him a call. We need to hang out.
GRiD: How on earth would I know?
LV: Well, N. kind of has a special relationship with electricity so I thought maybe ...
GRiD: I have no idea. Good night LV.
LV: Good night Grid. You're powerful!
GRiD: (click)
LV: (looks at phone) Hmm.

It's All About My World (More About The Road Trip...
I am starting to remember now. This road trip. It’s all coming back to me. (Cars have memories, but they tend to fade, like dreams, once they have a new owner. Of course a road trip diary, like this one, can bring it all back. Especially if you’re smart for a car, which, of course, I am.)
I was born, as you well know, dear Blog, in 1959. I was owned by a young family with two...
The Road Trip Diaries, Author Unknown: Kansas...
We’ve hit our groove now. We’re rolling like this car was meant to roll! The adventure has finally begun. A road trip doesn’t really begin, I’ve decided, until you start covering ground you’ve never seen before, you know? Places you’ve never been. That’s when you start to really let go, when your own edges start to expand, when you start to unfold yourself like the map, finally out of the...

Feeling nostalgic today. Nostalgic for my whole-car-self. Can’t wait to be put back together again. And to be with N. again. (You know how I miss him when he’s not around, dear Blog.) So. Straight from my memory banks: Get Around. Sigh. So pretty.

– Jack Kerouac, in On the Road
Just dreaming of the road while I wait to be put together again, folks. I long to be back on the road again with my bff N., back in our supernatural groove. We have something no one else has, me and N.; we are the purity of the road, times a thousand.

Now I’m floating ‘cause I’m not tied to the ground
– I am. Remember, right now I have no wheels, no rotary engine … I am light as a feather, a shell, a shadow, a ghost. Today, I am the ocean. Or maybe the fog. Either way, I am floating, in another place, not tied to the ground.
